I've visited many onsen areas across the country, but the water quality here is by far the best.
There were plenty of large yunohana (mineral deposits), and the strong sulfur scent really made me feel like I had come to a proper onsen.
After bathing, my skin felt smooth and warm for a long time. I will definitely be coming back.

This is one of my favorite places to stay, and I visit every year.
The onsen is truly wonderful, and I also love the gentle, nourishing meals.
With the recent inbound tourism policies, there are more foreign staff members now.
Their dedication really comes through.

From the moment we checked in, the staff were kind and attentive, even to our small children.
Despite there being many non-Japanese staff members, the service was excellent, and we were able to relax and recover from our travel fatigue.
The inn and our room were both very clean, and the meals were delicious.
There were many drinks included in the stay, which was a great bonus.
We would love to visit again.

Overall, the service was good, and there were no particularly negative points worth mentioning.

If I had to point out something, I would appreciate having a way to cool down in the bathing area—such as a cold bath or a place to sit and rest in the open-air onsen area.

I plan to visit again.

Our stay at Matsuzakaya Honten was truly memorable. The setting is peaceful and picturesque, the staff were incredibly kind and attentive, and the onsen experience was both relaxing and rejuvenating. The rooms were immaculate and beautifully designed, blending traditional charm with modern comfort. Every part of the property reflects a rich sense of history and care.

As for the food, while there were some very good dishes that we enjoyed, the overall menu seems tailored to a very specific palate. Guests who are more adventurous with traditional Japanese cuisine will likely appreciate it more than we did.

Despite that, everything else about our experience was exceptional, and we would wholeheartedly recommend Matsuzakaya Honten to anyone looking for a serene and authentic ryokan stay.

Overall,Wonderful stay-staff/room/ food. But,
Location not in proximity to main areas and may be unable to get taxi. Also as not in main areas, no dining options available to walk to outside hotel.
Misleading as private bath/ onsen is outside including shower and our first night was with rainstorm and cold so unable to utilize this shower. Only when able to transfer our concerns to someone who understood , did we learn we could use a private onsen with indoor shower however this was quite a distance away and still has to go outside to get there.

Our 2 nights we spent at this location were amazing! We had excellent service from Murata and Sato, and everyone there was really friendly. The onsen quality was excellent as well and we would definitely book again!

Il faut immanquablement venir ici dans ce ryocan pour faire l'expérience du onsen et havre de paix à la japonnaise. On dirait que le temps s'est arrêté dans ce lieu et le personnel est vraiment aimable et aux petits soins. Le dîner était copieux et de haute qualité. Le petit déjeuner également. We stayed for one night as a family. Our child was feeling unwell and couldn't eat, but the staff were incredibly considerate, making rice balls for us and changing the meal to congee. It was truly thoughtful of them.
It would be even better if there were a wider variety of drinks included in the all-inclusive package.

After watching the Ekiden, we stayed at the hotel. The bath was very comfortable, and the private open-air onsen was also very pleasant. The water quality was great, leaving my skin smooth. The food was delicious as well.

We have stayed one night with my wife in a room with private onsen.
We have been in many premium/boutique hotel in the past, but this experience was probably in the top three !
The hotel is beautiful, very authentic but also modern and sparkling clean.
Rooms are huge, well decorated and confortable.
Food was probably michelin star quality and huge portions.
I wish he wad stayed one more night
