We visited during the cold season, and a warm kotatsu was prepared in the room, which was very appreciated. The room had a living area and a bedroom with twin beds, which were very large and comfortable. The refrigerator had several complimentary drinks, and there was a coffee maker, so simply spending time in the room was enjoyable.

The meals combined taste and elegance, and the dishes were carefully selected. We were satisfied with both dinner and breakfast. Inclusive drinks were also available, and juices were provided after using the onsen.

We also used the private onsen, and the large onsen was spacious, allowing us to spend a relaxing time.

It may have been after a heavy snowfall, but the temperature difference in the passage from the onsen and the strong ventilation in the onsen made it cold inside. Additionally, it was very regrettable that a foreign guest mistakenly entered the women’s and men’s onsen.

I felt that the staff’s service and hospitality were excellent. I would like to stay again in a different season.

The room only had a shower, but this was not inconvenient at all since we used the large onsen and open-air onsen. Even if the room had an open-air onsen, we might not have used it because the large onsen and private open-air onsen were so wonderful.

The staff, whether attending to meals or cleaning the inn, served with smiles and made us feel very comfortable. The foreign staff members were likely all highly skilled, speaking both Japanese and English fluently, which was impressive. The Japanese staff were mostly young, eager, and energetic, which was encouraging.

The next day was my husband’s birthday, which we had not mentioned to the inn, but they wrote “Happy Birthday” in chocolate on the dessert plate at the end of dinner. My husband was very happy.

As for the meals, it is a matter of personal taste, but I personally found them enjoyable even if not perfect. Thank you. We would like to visit again next winter.

I had a very satisfying stay. The special plan was reasonably priced, and I had no complaints. We were allowed to check in early, and check-out at 11:00 AM allowed us to relax in the lobby with the all-inclusive service. Although there is nothing around the hotel, we were able to enjoy ourselves comfortably inside.

The small entrance leading to the spacious lobby and public areas was very stylish and beautiful. The meals were elaborate and very satisfying. Above all, the staff’s polite but unobtrusive service made our stay extremely comfortable. Thank you.

I stayed here for the first time last year and was impressed that everything about this ryokan was the best I had ever experienced. Because of that, I returned after a year. The onsen, meals, room, and staff service were all excellent… or so I would like to say, but there was one minor issue, so I rated it four stars.

When I went to the large onsen at 5:30 AM, a sign said “Cleaning in progress,” so I returned to my room without checking the schedule. However, when I looked at the guide in the room, it said the bath was available from 5:00 AM. I called the front desk and learned that the sign had simply been left out by mistake. The extra trip up and down so early in the morning was a bit tough. Mistakes happen, but I sincerely hope the staff take pride in the inn and ensure this does not happen again.

Our Complete Ryokan Experience (Standard Plan) at Matsuzakaya Honten was absolutely flawless from start to finish. Every detail was thoughtfully curated and executed to perfection.
The kaiseki dinner was exceptional—beautifully presented, seasonal, and deeply satisfying, followed by an equally memorable traditional Japanese breakfast that balanced elegance and comfort. The private onsen experience was serene and luxurious, offering complete relaxation in a peaceful setting.
Service throughout the stay was warm, attentive, and refined, making us feel genuinely cared for at every moment. The atmosphere, food, onsen, and hospitality all came together for an authentic and unforgettable ryokan stay.
Simply put: everything was five stars. An outstanding experience we would wholeheartedly recommend.

Since retiring, I’ve stayed at various places, but this was my first time at this ryokan. The cost performance was very satisfying. As the title says, I made my next reservation during this stay. The onsen quality was excellent, and the meals were delicious.

It would be better if the amenities were of slightly higher quality.

Although I booked directly through the ryokan’s website without using a travel agency, I did not receive a confirmation email, which was a bit disappointing. I hope this can be addressed in the future.

My stay at Matsuzakaya Onsen was wonderful. The building has a very traditional and unique feel. The facilities were great and the staff are incredibly kind and helpful! The kaiseki meal is also an incredible experience for first timers. Would happily recommend Matsuzakaya to anyone and can't wait to return!

Everything from the meals, onsen, bedding, to the hospitality was excellent, and we were very satisfied.
My companion was also pleased, saying that the fatigue from summer had melted away.
The bus on the way there was quite crowded, so we were a bit worried about the return trip, but a staff member kindly informed us that the Izu Hakone Bus tends to be less crowded than the Hakone Tozan Bus, which allowed us to return comfortably.

We were lucky to find a last-minute vacancy during a long weekend and made a sudden reservation.
We didn't do any sightseeing — just traveled from home to the inn and back — purely for the onsen.

The scent of sulfur was soothing, and the kind hospitality of the staff was comforting as well.
It gave me the energy to get back to work again.

An old building is being beautifully used in a modern way.
The staff were very kind and polite, which left a good impression.
The room was also lovely, with a heavy, classic atmosphere that felt like stepping back into the Meiji era.
Both the private onsen and the indoor onsen had excellent water quality, which left my skin feeling very smooth.
The draft beer served as a complimentary drink after onsen was very tasty. I enjoyed it at a wonderful bar.
Both dinner and breakfast were healthy and delicious. I would love to visit again.

I was satisfied with both the content and quantity of the meals, and appreciated the many local specialties offered.
Regarding drinks, I thought it would be nice to have some special options that lift the mood, such as sparkling wine.
Even if limited to one glass, having a special choice would be appreciated.
It would also be convenient if ice could be taken back to the room for drinks.
The onsen was good, but except for one spot in the large onsen, most areas were too hot to stay in for long, which was unfortunate.
Having small towels in addition to bath towels in the onsen area would be even more convenient.
If bath towels were placed within reach inside the bathroom, small towels might not be necessary.
I also felt a bit of stress when locking the room door, as it required moving the door back and forth slightly.
Given the excellent facilities overall, these small inconveniences were somewhat disappointing.

Both the private and large public baths were filled with "yu no hana" (mineral deposits), and the sulfur scent was just right. The quality of the onsen water was excellent, and the scenery and atmosphere of the baths were wonderful.
The quality and volume of the meals, both dinner and breakfast, were impeccable.
The building is rich with a sense of history, and the staff’s courteous service made it a memorable trip for us as a couple.

Due to transportation issues, we had to cancel our original travel plans and ended up staying here at the last minute. I had visited over 15 years ago, and I was pleasantly surprised by how beautifully the place has been renovated.
The service was courteous, and the warm hospitality made for a very satisfying stay.
Although our room only had a shower, we were able to enjoy the large public onsen, so it was not an issue. The room itself was spacious enough.
It was a bit disappointing that the bar was closed. It's a lovely space, so I hope it reopens in the future.
