My family of three arrived here to relax after a week of sightseeing and the hustle and bustle or Osaka and Kyoto. We were greeted upon arrival and give. resort shoes (slides) that we would be using throughout our stay.

During the check-in process, we were given a choice of yukata to wear during our stay. We took off our regular city clothes and remained in the resort wear all throughout the stay.

This is not a modern hotel property, and the facility is not new, by any means. But it has been well maintained and has a lot of modern improvements: in-room bathrooms are large and super clean and modernized. Our room (Gyokoso) had a private Hinoki bath and an outdoor private onsen. The bedroom was large, as well as the indoor sitting area and a lovely outdoor viewing area. Great place to sit and ponder.

The onsen is filled with natural - and incredibly sulphuric water. The smell definitely takes a bit of getting used to, but it’s definitely alll natural.

I cannot say enough about the kind staff who took care of us during our stay. The kaiseki cuisine was elaborate and delicious, and those who attended to us were patient and friendly without being obsequious. Also of note: they were all either very pretty or very good looking, ha!

All in all, a well-preserved and exclusive resort in Hakone. You get a feel for the imperial-ness of times gone by and the attentive service you imagine at a place of this caliber.

Gyokoso and Senshintei rooms spatious, recently refubished and providing an excellent private bathing experience. Incredible amenities and complementary beverages. Kind staff. Good quality ceremonial Japanese dinner and breakfast in private dining spaces. Hotel conciergerie needs improving, communication in english is poor and staff struggles to make arrangements for local tourism.

Came to this onsen for my partner's birthday and it was an amazing experience. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly and got a surprise bday welcome in our room as well. Service was impeccable, rooms were spotless, food was exceptional and overall, we were highly impressed with our entire stay here.

We booked a room with indoor and outdoor tubs, but didn't realize there was also a separate outdoor private onsen that you could book outside in the main areas. That was a wonderful surprise and added to the whole experience, especially with the hot springs backdropped by the fresh snow.

Highly recommend the stay here and felt we were well looked after the entire time

My family and I had an amazing stay at Matsuzakaya. Everything was perfect—the atmosphere, the hospitality, the food and especially the onsen. The bed and futon were incredibly comfortable; I slept so well that I wished I could stay one more day! We truly loved every moment and would love to come back again.
