I stayed here for the first time in January this year and was so satisfied with the location, facilities, historic atmosphere, meals, and service. I wanted my family to experience all the wonderful aspects of this ryokan, so I brought them with me for a second stay. Just like the first time, I enjoyed not only the room, meals, and the natural onsen but also the exceptional hospitality and the thoughtful attention given to guests, which made my stay even more enjoyable. My family also loved it, and they were eager to return, which made me very happy as I planned this trip. We are not sure whether our next visit will be with the whole family or just as a couple, but we definitely plan to stay again. I look forward to that and will enjoy the anticipation day by day.

Our stay at Matsuzakaya Honten was an incredible experience from start to finish. We loved every moment of our stay, but in particular, the room was one of the most beautiful we have ever stayed in and the food was wonderful. This is my second time staying here. The property is located in a nature-rich area, and the atmosphere of the building is very beautiful. It's my favorite ryokan in Hakone.
The food was delicious, including the additional dishes, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The staff was very kind and attentive, and their dedication was evident.
The onsen was, of course, wonderful, and even after checking out, my feet remained warm.
I was very satisfied with everything and was able to relax peacefully in the building, which has a warm wooden ambiance.
I will definitely visit again.

Thank you for your wonderful service.
It was surprisingly a ryokan that gave me a sense of the Meiji era.
The room was very comfortable, and I was able to relax with the kotatsu. The private open-air onsen was also amazing.
One thing I noticed was that the light above the washbasin was directed upwards, so it was a bit inconvenient when applying makeup.

I would definitely love to stay again in the future.

My husband was looking for a traditional, historic ryokan, while I was hoping for a ryokan with great onsen. As food lovers, we also had high expectations for the quality of the meals. Since we were paying a reasonable amount, we also expected great service.

Matsuzakaya Honten exceeded all of our expectations. The dinner was absolutely delicious, and we were very satisfied. The onsen were wonderful, and the cleanliness and overall atmosphere of the space made it very pleasant.

We will definitely visit again.

We stayed 2 nights and loved the Matsuzakaya. The staff were gracious and lovely, the rooms were bigger and more inviting than we imagined and the onsite onsen, especially the private baths, were particularly welcome. The evening keiseki meals were remarkable and the servers were engaging as they explained each of the many courses the meals entailed. Greet place to reinvigorate while sampling traditional Japanese hospitality and etiquette.

It was the best stay we had ever. The staff are very friendly and eager to help. The hotel food was by far the best we had in Japan. Plus, they made sure to accommodate for any food allergies.

Service was very good. Everyone was polite, friendly and warm. It was great they have a team of people who can speak both English and mandarin which was very helpful.
The dinner was surprising good. Free flow of alcohol drink at the dinner and also the lounge. There were 3 places at least for you to rest and relax around the onsen beside your room.
The room was very clean and modern. Amenities were great as well.
The only downside is that it’s far away from the main train but excellent service, amenities and food makes this onsen stay worthwhile.

We had a very enjoyable and relaxing few days at the resort. The staff was very friendly and courteous. The food was excellent and its presentation very pleasing. The restaurant service was top notch. Our room was large and comfortable, with an indoor hot spring bath which we used several times. It was a new and very different experience for us.

It was our child's first stay and experience with an onsen. They seemed to have a great time playing at the children's festival, enjoying the juice, and having fun at the old-fashioned playground. Even now, whenever we see onsen travel commercials, they react with, "Hakone!" and "That was fun!" We also had a relaxing time. Thank you very much!

Every detail during our time at the Honten felt very special and thoughtful: the staff was incredibly hospitable and sweet, the location was quaint surrounded by nature and history, the accommodations were very comfortable with multiple spaces to enjoy and the baths and Kaiden experience were superb.
