I recently stayed at this lovely hotel in Honkne, Japan, and I can’t say enough good things about the experience. The place is absolutely beautiful, blending traditional Japanese charm with all the modern amenities you could need. The hot springs were a highlight—peaceful, authentic, and just what I needed to unwind. What really stood out, though, was the service. Everything was spotless and smooth, but more importantly, the staff truly cared. I want to give a special thank you to Takahashi-san. Not only was he a great receptionist, but he also helped me through a situation I didn’t expect—handling a car accident that required a police report. He was incredibly patient, kind, and thorough. Thanks to him, what could’ve been a stressful ordeal was resolved quickly and calmly. I’m genuinely grateful for his help. This hotel is more than just a nice place to stay—it’s somewhere you feel supported and welcome. I’d love to come back again.

This was our second time staying here as a couple.
Our first visit was six months ago, and both my wife and I had such a memorable experience at Matsuzakaya Honten that we decided to return.
We came to Hakone specifically to stay at Matsuzakaya Honten.
The dinner and breakfast were both excellent, and the tea and sweets served at check-in were also very delicious.
We were able to spend a truly pleasant time.

I stayed here for my wedding anniversary with my wife.
The room was Ashikariso’s Yamaboushi.

The traditional atmosphere of the ryokan was very pleasant.
The open-air onsen in the room was excellent.
The food was delicious.
Since it was all-inclusive, we were satisfied being able to enjoy as much alcohol and juice as we liked.

Our favorite point, for both my wife and me, was the kindness of the staff.

Even with many international guests, the staff, including those from overseas, explained the meals carefully and greeted us with warm smiles. We were truly impressed not only by the ryokan itself but also by the wonderful staff.

This is definitely a ryokan we want to stay at again.

The abundant amount of rich onsen water made my skin smooth. This quality of onsen is probably unmatched anywhere else in Hakone. Even in midsummer, there was no need for air conditioning thanks to the coolness. It was quiet and relaxing, making it perfect for a summer retreat.

The onsen, meals, room, and service were all very good, making it a wonderful trip.
If I were to mention one thing, the drainage in the washbasin was poor, causing water to accumulate, so I brushed my teeth in the shower room.

We stayed in the resort for one night and we booked in advance through the hotel site. The staff was amazing and accommodating for the time of the booking until our final check out. All facilities and experiences were well taken care of. Overall it's an expreicne of a lifetime and the onsen by itself would worth it. However the meals and the room takes the experience to another level. An amazing place to finish your trip in Japan as you unwind from your journey around the country.

I stayed at Ashikari-so Himeshara this time.
The room had a calm atmosphere and was very clean. The private open-air onsen in the room was the best, and it helped me relax and relieve the fatigue from my daily life. The meals were delicious, and the staff was kind and attentive, making it a wonderful experience.
The amenities were well-stocked, and having plenty of bath towels available was very convenient. The only downside was that the water flow in the bathroom sink was poor, and when I turned on the water, it started to accumulate. Other than that, it was truly a wonderful place. I would love to visit again.

This is our second stay, following our visit in July. The staff remembered my wife and me, and we were greeted with even warmer, more open smiles this time. The service felt more friendly and heartfelt, in a very good way.
Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, providing just the right amount of satisfaction. We had enjoyable conversations with the staff, and the overseas staff gave detailed explanations of the dishes in Japanese with a smile. Their sincere effort brought a tear to my eye.
The hot springs were wonderful, with a subtle sulfur scent and bath flowers in the water, which reflected the high quality of the spring.
The fresh flowers placed throughout the hotel were beautiful and elegant, adding to the overall soothing atmosphere, which truly matched the essence of Matsuzakaya Honten.
It was a perfect stay! We made a reservation for next May at checkout. Looking forward to it! See you next May!!

This place was wonderful. We booked the room with a private onsen and it was an amazing experience. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. We loved the traditional ryokan experience and the yukatas available to wear. Meals and food were provided and the kaiseki was tasty and delicious. The staff were very accommodating as well. The only con is that it is quite far to get to from the train stations. However, there is a bus stop walking distance from the hotel which makes things a little easier.

This was the perfect relaxing stay after a busy week! There was a summer event going on, so we enjoyed some shaved ice when we arrived. The room was spacious and amazing, and we took ample advantage of the private open-air bath in our room, which was the perfect size for a couple. I was able to relax both physically and mentally thanks to the top-notch hospitality. I would like to express my gratitude by mentioning a few aspects of the wonderful service. First, upon arrival, we were greeted on the road, and the staff came to assist with parking, which was very impressive. During check-in, we were offered tea and sweets, and within 10 minutes of arriving, I was convinced that this was the best accommodation. The ryokan maintains the charm of old Japan while being well-maintained where needed, with no complaints. The private open-air baths, with various types and room options, allowed us to enjoy different baths at our preferred times. The staff's interaction was perfect; their high skill in engaging without intruding on our privacy made for a very enjoyable experience, and they all seemed to be happily working. Unexpected summer events like shooting games and shaved ice added to our enjoyment of the season. Lastly, receiving a gift for our special occasion was incredibly generous and made us feel overwhelmed with the wonderful hospitality. Thank you for creating such a special time and space.

I found this place, Matsuzakaya Honten, through an online search. From the moment I arrived, the warm welcome from the staff made it clear that this was a wonderful ryokan.

The staff member who explained the ryokan and the bath facilities seemed to be from overseas but made a sincere effort to ensure we enjoyed our stay.

The room was charming and provided a calming atmosphere.

Dinner was not only visually stunning but also delicious. The detailed explanations of each dish made me even more excited to eat. I was particularly touched when the staff noticed I had a nasal allergy and brought tissues without me mentioning it.

The private bath was clean and enjoyable.

The bed was perfectly firm, allowing for a restful night's sleep.

During breakfast, the temperature of the dining room was adjusted for our comfort, making the meal even more enjoyable.

The send-off was pleasant and left me wanting to return.

This ryokan is highly recommended for anyone visiting onsen in Hakone.
