We stayed at the Kinnotake Resort for two nights during our two week honeymoon across Japan and it was absolutely a highlight of our trip. The room was incredible, the staff was so helpful and kind and all the meals were truly events we'll never forget. We had some of the best bites of our trip here. And our time soaking in the beautiful onsen was one of the most relaxing moments I have ever experienced. From the moment you step on the property to the moment you leave, you'll be well cared for here.

The drive to this hotel is worth staying here, you cross the most magical small bridge, neighboring the train tracks above a a narrow creek. The staff are waiting outside to greet you and assist you with your luggage. The rooms are magic, private hot springs onsen and every amenity you could want, facemasks, kimonos to wear to meals, robes, slippers. Etc.

My only negative is the dinner was a bit more ok the traditional seafood than we personally prefer, but perhaps that is out US preferences. The Western breakfast was terrific.

Although the staff were very nice and tried hard, the experience just wasn’t what we expected given the price and what we found at other similarly priced properties around Japan. The property is clearly targeted to westerners who want what they imagine the Japanese experience to be (but it felt off compared to the multiple other properties we had stayed at prior). The food taste and quality was below what would be expected for the price of the room. The fact that the pool and sauna cost an extra price per person to use is odd. The room lighting does not make any sense, so it is very hard to use the rooms for anything other than sleeping, yet there are few amenities on the property itself. It would be nice to be given a better explanation of how to access public transit from the property, given its location. Overall, we used the room as a place to sleep and spent as much time away from the property as possible. The food could be skipped - though the on site teppanyaki restaurant was worth the upgrade (while still obviously targeted at westerners, the food quality and taste were far superior to the dining included with the room).

Hello
from the moment the private car picked us up from the Odawara train station I knew our stay was going to be magical. The kinnotake resort staff met us outside of the door with warm scented hand towels. During our check in process the staff had us sit near a floor to ceiling window viewing the bamboo trees while they explained the layout of resort and all its amenities. The hospitality was 5 plus. The room was huge modern and clean with a picturesque view and the beds were very comfortable. The onsen was wonderful as we used it every night particularly after a day hiking and viewing Mt fuji. Now last but not least, the food was exceptional. I have not had better food at any resort we have stayed and we have traveled to Italy, Africa and Hawaii and more. If you are contemplating western breakfast or Japanese breakfast get the japanese breakfast you can thank me later. Outstanding 5 stars

I visited 3–4 years ago and it was a wonderful inn, so I made a reservation to return for my partner’s birthday.

The room and the food were still wonderful as before,
but the moment we entered the room, we noticed a moldy smell.
Since it was a special day, we tried to overlook it, but it was overwhelming.

Mold was present throughout the building and gave off an unpleasant odor.
It was visible to the eye.
We paid to use the private sauna, but the shower area smelled strongly of mold and the drains were clogged with waste.
At the bar, there was a glass-enclosed wine cellar, but all the wine was covered in white mold. I thought some might be vintage, but they were all young wines, which was surprising. Around the corks, there was also blue mold. As a sommelier myself, I have never seen a wine cellar in such a condition.

Both my partner and I have mild mold allergies.
We ran the air purifier at maximum and opened the windows for ventilation, but our eyes itched, our noses were congested, and it was very uncomfortable. Sleeping at night was difficult.
As someone who chose this inn, I felt very sorry for the situation.

Because the room, onsen, food, and service are so excellent, it was especially disappointing.
Even though we stayed on a special plan, the experience was so uncomfortable that it almost didn’t feel worth the cost.
Considering the price, more attention should be paid to hygiene.

This time it had been a while since it rained, and the scent of greenery

Except for meals, I stayed in the room
onsen → sleep → onsen.

Overall, I was very satisfied. The amenities were well provided, and I was happy that even the haori was cleaned. I often stay at various luxury inns as a hobby, and I found the items and facilities here very clean and well-maintained.

Personally, I would have liked a samue. While it may go against the inn’s concept, I would also have appreciated a trash bin in the room. The meals were delicious and the portions just right. I ordered the Western breakfast, which was comparable to a café in town, but I would have liked some fruit for dessert. Perhaps the Japanese breakfast would have been better.

That said, this ryokan has become one of the places I would like to revisit. Thank you.

I was able to take a day off from work, so I wanted to relax in an onsen and stayed for one night.
We stayed in the “Ten” room, and the atmosphere of the room was very lovely. The amenities, the inclusive items in the refrigerator, the welcome drinks, and the sweets such as strawberries and cheesecake were all delightful.

It was heavy snow on the day of our stay, making travel difficult, but the view from the open-air onsen was truly beautiful and impressive. We also ordered additional dishes of abalone and spiny lobster, making the meal even more luxurious, and everything was delicious.

The staff were kind and attentive, and we were able to enjoy a luxurious and relaxing time. Thank you very much.

We had planned our trip to Hakone for several months, and it was very satisfying.
With a small number of rooms, the inn was quiet and comfortable, even during meals. The room itself was spacious and allowed us to relax comfortably.
We would like to stay here again when we visit Hakone.

What a disappointing end to a phenomenal trip to Japan. We stayed at this hotel for one night, and chose it based on the fact that they have great reviews, serve Wagyu, have a gym, and have a private onsen in each room.

For almost $1k USD per night, we leave feeling ripped off. First: the food. The food was just not good. We paid an extra 33k yen to upgrade to a Wagyu lovers menu. 70% of the menu was seafood, with a few small beef dishes sprinkled in. The main course was only 40g (!) Wagyu each that we had to cook ourselves. The meat was chewy and you could find a better quality from a street vendor. Second: the service. The staff are junior, not helpful, and not welcoming. The service at both dinner and breakfast was deplorable. At dinner, they dropped off dishes like they were from a sushi conveyor belt without any description of the food. They looked at our empty glasses without asking if we wanted any refills. During breakfast, they served the first course before our drinks arrived. They never asked if we wanted coffee and seemed inconvenienced when we asked. They served the egg course at the same time as the prior course and so our eggs were cold by the time we started eating them. It felt like a tasting menu setup with airplane food (and actually worse than airplane service). Third: the tacky upcharges. As other reviews mentioned, they miss no opportunity to try to upsell you. There were laminated cards on dinner tables advertising ice cream and water for extra charge. You received free Peroni and cheap Prosecco, but then the cheapest glass of wine at dinner was $30 USD (and not good wine at that).

I struggle writing a negative review but do so in hopes to save others from making the same mistake we did. The two positives I would highlight is that the private onsen is great and the location is beautiful. But you can find the same at another hotel that is likely cheaper and with level of luxury that is matching the price.

We had a fantastic experience at Kinnotake Tonnosawa! The atmosphere was very special, and the team were extremely kind and friendly, always gentle and helpful. The kaiseki dining experience was wonderful, and we really appreciated how kind the dining team was.
There is only one minor point that I would mention: I would have expected the use of the sauna and pool to be included in the total cost.
Other than that, the overall experience was really nice!

I was brought here for my birthday and was able to spend a special time in a quiet and relaxing atmosphere.

The hospitality of the staff was excellent. The female staff member who assisted us at dinner and the female staff member from Okinawa who served us at breakfast were both very friendly and easy to talk to, which we appreciated. The farewell at departure was also very courteous.

We stayed here for a special celebration. We appreciated that the staff discussed the details with us in advance and prepared a special plate and towel art for the occasion. We informed them of a shrimp allergy, but shrimp miso soup was served at breakfast. However, it was promptly replaced, which we appreciated.

We stayed here over the New Year period. All of the staff were very polite and attentive. The meals were delicious. The breakfast, which included New Year’s soba and osechi-style dishes, gave a special feeling for the year-end. Even though we stayed for two nights, the menu was properly changed each day. The only disappointment was that the large public onsen was removed, as we were looking forward to the onsen. It has been replaced with a gym, pool, and sauna.

My wife and I took a belated honeymoon to Japan; I booked Kinnotake Tonosawa, hoping for a relaxing ryokan experience and a nice onsen soak. I got more than I could have hoped for. From the moment we were walking up the short road to the hotel, a staff members was coming down to welcome us and carry our bags. We were welcomed with coffee, tea, treats, and a very attentive and welcoming staff. We were allowed to check in a bit early for a small fee.

The room was huge and well supplied with amenities. The onsen was already full and piping hot. Yukatas and getas were available, as well as complementary socks. For our dinner, we were driven a short distance and walked into the restaurant, where we had a private teppanyaki chef who prepared a delicious meal.

We had only planned for one night; my only regret is not staying longer. I have never been more relaxed; every staff member was pleasant, kind, and caring. I simply can not recommend this ryokan enough.

We booked the place without any expectation as it was both our first time at a ryokan. When we arrived, the staff was there to receive us, throughout the stay, the staff was very warm and friendly and will do their best to accommodate you. This place really let's you relax.

If I have to really nitpick then it would be that its weird seeing how they provided water kettle and tea leaves but there's only glass in the room( which doesn't seem to be able to be used for hot water). So maybe it'll be better to provide some mugs.

The staff are super friendly and helpful, getting a taxi to train stations can be organized in advance, options for both western and Japanese breakfast plus beautiful scenery. The rooms are gorgeous and have everything you could need for a relaxing time! The Yukata are lovely, and it’s nice to be so comfortable. I used the spa for a massage which was also great! I would strongly recommend staying for some relaxation on your trip!

My stay at Kinnotake Tonosawa was truly wonderful. The staff were very friendly and always willing to help. I enjoyed an amazing massage at Moon SPA, and the food at the Teppanyaki Zen restaurant was delicious. The bartender at Bar Bamboo was also very kind and made the experience even nicer. The private onsen was perfect and helped me relax completely. Overall, I had a peaceful, relaxing stay, and I loved every moment.

Everything was absolutely sublime. The rooms, the onsen, the staff and the spa are the best. Rooms were spacious and beautiful with all the amenities we needed plus they have their own original nuts which were absolutely delicious. The private onsen with the view is one of the most relaxing things I've ever done on my life. The staff, always polite, always there to help us with anything that we needed. Finally, the spa, I was sent to another dimension; I didn't know it could be this good. It's definitely a must try for anyone visiting this hotel; it feels like you're being massaged by the divine. What an amazing experience which I will never ever forget.

Having an open-air onsen and a dedicated space for preparation was very rare, and I really enjoyed being able to spend a long time in the onsen.

The food was excellent, comparable to a high-level restaurant.

It was nice to have a space where we could relax with an all-you-can-drink option. The bar also had a great atmosphere.

Sauna & Pool
I did not use the pool, but the quality of the sauna was sufficient for a small private sauna, and I was satisfied. When moving from the changing room to the sauna, it was visible from the gym, so it would be better if this could be improved so that visitors do not have to worry about what to wear or while returning. There were no people using the gym at the time, but it would be preferable if it were not visible.

Customer Service
All staff were polite and provided excellent service. It was also nice that they placed our luggage first without guiding us to the room immediately, allowing us to move at our own pace without feeling pressured.

The stay was impressive. We loved the open air bathtub with a view of the pond. It was super relaxing. Some people mentioned it was difficult to get from the hotel, but the bus stop is right in front of the property. Also use GoTaxi if you don’t want to take the bus. The food was sublime, and the service was immaculate. We had a wonderful time. My only note is I wish the gym had water and towels.

This was a long-cherished inn for me.
The entire property is filled with the scent of incense, and the lighting is gentle, creating a very relaxing atmosphere.
The Haruka room is quiet, and I could not hear any traffic noise. In the open-air onsen, I could enjoy the beautiful scenery and the sound of birds while bathing.
Both dinner and breakfast were simply exquisite. Seasonal ingredients are used, and the number of dishes is more than sufficient. The staff also greeted me with smiles and attentive eye contact, which moved me deeply. I would love to stay here again.

I stayed 1 night with my friend during our trip to Japan, and it was a much needed for relaxation! The private onsen made it convenient to use whenever you want to, and the bamboo forest surrounding the establishment was very pretty. It was raining as we were arriving, so the employees ran out with umbrellas and to help us with our luggages. It was a nice, warm welcome, especially since we had been traveling all morning! We had the welcome desserts and drinks as we checked in, and the rest of the evening was great. The dinner and breakfast were both delicious, and the servers/staff are very attentive and ensured we had a good experience. They also sort out anything you need for transport away from the ryokan, but we ended up taking the bus, since the stop is right outside the resort. The room was so comfortable, clean, and we enjoyed our stay. Highly recommend!

Honestly was expecting more. Lovely accomodation however some parts werent really thought out properly in terms of design. If this is a modern interpretation of a classic ryokan, certainly several places could have been better especially the smaller details.

Room wise was great, big and spaceous however bath water pressure was bad. Onsen water temp was slightly warm.

Food wise is just bad. Its edible. But definitely not representative of what the best japan have to offer. Restaurant area could do some upgrade in terms of thoughtfulness in terms of design.

Overall website gave a better presentation of the facilities than actual or expected.

Can’t say enough about this hotel. Hidden up in the hillside a short bus ride away from Hakone station. The welcome was nice the hotel is nice and the private onsen was perfect. This is a place you can get away from the concrete jungles and unwind. I’d definitely recommend reserving the spa for an hour too. Staff was friendly and made the stay even more pleasurable.

From the moment we left the inn, we already missed Kinnotake Tonosawa, and my husband and I kept saying to each other, “We want to come back.” That’s how wonderful the experience was for us.

After getting off the bus and crossing the suspension bridge exclusive to guests, our excitement couldn’t be contained.
Before check-in, we were welcomed with drinks and sweets in the lovely lobby, which already made the experience feel special.

There are two main things that stood out most in our memories of this trip.
First, the beautiful room and the open-air onsen.
We’ve stayed at other inns with private open-air onsen before, but the view of the bamboo forest, the sounds, the scent, and the entire atmosphere here made it truly relaxing.

Second, the smiles of the staff.
Every staff member we interacted with was kind and full of hospitality. Even those we didn’t speak with directly greeted us warmly, which made our entire stay incredibly pleasant.

This was our last trip as a couple before the birth of our child, and it became a truly unforgettable memory.
While it may be difficult to visit again with a baby, we hope to make the time to return someday.
It was our best memory of the year.

The other day, I stayed with my daughter.
The room was spacious and clean, and being able to enjoy the open-air onsen whenever we liked made for a truly luxurious experience.
For dinner, we switched to the teppanyaki restaurant “Zen” located on the same property, where the Ishigaki beef was incredibly tender and absolutely delicious.
Breakfast was also stylish and tasty, and we were thoroughly satisfied until the very end.

We stayed at Kinnotake Tonosawa for our honeymoon. From the moment we arrived at the entrance to when we got on our taxi to depart, everything was absolutely amazing. The team was amazing, especially our sever during dinner on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 7:30pm. Unfortunately, we did not get her name, but she made our evening extra special with her exceptional service. The room was amazing, amenities were top notch with nothing to ask for as everything was prepared in the room. When we visited the bar after dinner, we asked the bartender to make a special Japanese style cocktail. He spent some time thinking about what to make and boom, magic happened. He made the best Japanese cocktail and it was by far the best cocktail we’ve ever had! We also booked a massage and it elevated our experience much more. It is highly recommended! We will definitely be visiting again when we return to Japan! Thank you for everything to make our honeymoon feel extra special and memorable!

Right after checking in, we stepped out onto the terrace of our room to take in the atmosphere.
The sound of the wind rustling through the bamboo leaves and the granite open-air onsen made us feel like we were in a completely different world, far from the city.
Then we got into the onsen. The water temperature was just right, and as we gazed at the scenery while soaking, time passed in the blink of an eye.
Meanwhile, my wife experienced the "Moon" spa course (body & facial) and came back feeling refreshed and very pleased.
After dinner, we enjoyed dessert on the lobby terrace along with some sparklers, which was a lovely touch.
Although it rained during the night, even the onsen in the rain had its own charm.
The next morning, we soaked in the open-air onsen again from around 5:30, surrounded by morning mist, and had a delicious breakfast.
Thanks to the rain, the temperature stayed pleasantly cool, and we were very satisfied with our stay.

We stay at a new onsen every time we come to Japan (roughly 10 so far) and were very happy with the Kinnotake Onsen. The grounds were very well maintained (might require a refresh soon), food was excellent, and the customer service rivaled 5 star hotels. I thought the Hanabi on the lanai was a nice touch at night. They were also very accommodating to my pregnant wife’s dietary restrictions. Thank you for including a pregnancy pillow in the room. I also very liked the ability to add additional dishes to our dinner.

My only comments other than positive were the mosquitoes near our outdoor bath (1st floor room) and the lack of complimentary food (light bites) that are usually common in onsen.

Overall would highly recommend.

Although it is relatively close to Hakone-Yumoto, the hotel is located beyond a bridge, which gave us a nice sense of being away from everyday life.

The variety of food was especially impressive, and we were very satisfied as we felt full from both dinner and breakfast.

All the staff who assisted us were very pleasant, and although there were guests from overseas, everyone provided wonderful hospitality.

I only used the café space after meals, but it was nice to be able to enjoy high-quality offerings all-inclusive. I think those who drink alcohol will especially appreciate this.

The room felt a little dark (which gave it a nice atmosphere), but it was somewhat dim for doing makeup. Overall, the room was spacious and comfortable.

I would like to use this hotel again if I have the opportunity.

We stayed here to celebrate my wife's recovery.
On the way to the facility from the bridge reserved for guests, we could see the mountain railway, which made us feel very excited.
Upon arrival, we were welcomed with delicious drinks and sweets in a very clean lounge.
Overall, the meals were excellent, and the private open-air onsen in our room was wonderful—we were very satisfied with our stay.
If I may offer one small suggestion, having an extra men's yukata and samue available would have made the experience even better.
The drink service in the lounge and the warm hospitality of the staff during dinner and breakfast were also very impressive and made us feel welcome.

The service, the meals, and the rooms are all excellent, and I have stayed here many times.
This time, I visited after receiving a notice for 30% off.
Perhaps due to the discount, the room was a bit smaller than usual, but it wasn’t an issue.
The meals were delicious, but I was disappointed that the rice at both dinner and breakfast was not very good.
During dinner, I was bothered by the loud conversations among some of the service staff.

Up until now, I have always been very satisfied with my stays, and I plan to continue visiting in the future as well.
The chirimen sansho given at checkout was also delicious.

The staff are highly professional, the room was clean, and the atmosphere was very relaxing.

If I had to mention two small things:

That said, I still believe this is an outstanding ryokan.

Upon arriving at Kinnotake Tonosawa, we were immediately greeted by incredibly friendly and professional staff. They brought us to the room and we were immediately impressed by the size, cleanliness, and details of the room. The onsen was a treat, as was the comfort of the beds. The bathroom and closet size is incredibly generous as well.

The rest of the property was great -- particularly the included beverage area and dinner. I would highly recommend the restaurant for vegetarians. We had stayed at a different ryokan who prepared fairly bland and lackluster vegetarian food. However, Kinnotake Tonosawa's food was creative, full of flavor, and plentiful.

The gym is fairly small and a bit too warm for our personal taste, but that was our only flaw that we found.

Soaking in the onsen while gazing at the beautiful bamboo forest was the perfect escape from everyday life.

As soon as we entered the building, we were greeted by the pleasant scent of incense.
The room was spacious, still new and clean, and the open-air onsen was larger than it appeared in the photos, which was a nice surprise.

The public onsen has been replaced by a swimming pool, which was a bit disappointing, but soaking in our private onsen under the starry night sky made for a wonderful experience.

We appreciated the afternoon tea service, the thoughtful touches like tidying up the room and lighting the firepit during dinner, and even bringing cake to the room. The meals were plentiful and delightful.

Although a TV set was provided, we had such a peaceful stay that we never even turned it on.

The meals and service were truly excellent.
However, I was disappointed that the sink area was directly visible from the guest room, so brushing teeth and similar activities were fully exposed. Additionally, the shower room had no blinds or curtains, and the glass door made it completely see-through.

This time I stayed with my family, but even among family members, it was uncomfortable.

Since Hakone is nearby, I had never actually stayed overnight before. But this time, I decided to try staying in Hakone for the first time and chose this place based on its great reviews.

Just as the reviews said, it was a truly satisfying experience.

The atmosphere of the inn and the demeanor of all the staff were both excellent. The private onsen in the room had a beautiful view of bamboo and hydrangeas, which created a wonderfully relaxing environment.

I was a bit unsure about using an open-air onsen in the heat of July, but the breeze from the river in the morning and evening made it very comfortable.

This has become a place I would love to visit again in a different season.

This time, I brought my elderly mother and chose Kinnotake mainly because the photos of the rooms on the website raised my expectations. I was looking for a spacious room with few steps and an easy-access bath for my mother, and the room did not disappoint. It was not only spacious but also had low sofas you could lie down on, two long sofas with a table, two beds, and a futon was also provided.

As three women were staying together, we appreciated the large mirrors, the makeup area, and the magnifying mirror for makeup. There were two types of yukata—one for wearing around the facility and one for sleeping—as well as tabi socks. All the drinks in the fridge were complimentary and included in the room rate. Since we don’t drink alcohol, everything was kindly replaced in advance with tea and water.

One disappointment was the low water pressure in the shower, which made washing hair a bit difficult. It also took a long time to fill the indoor onsen for the same reason. In the open-air onsen, insects would fall into the water, so it would have been helpful to have a small net for removing them.

The meals felt thoughtfully prepared with local ingredients—vegetables, fruits, and fish all came from the area. On the club floor, we had spiny lobster (ise-ebi) sashimi for dinner, and miso soup made from the head the next morning, which my mother particularly enjoyed.

Breakfast offered a choice between Japanese and Western styles, and even within Japanese, you could choose between rice or rice porridge, which my mother appreciated. The club floor allows checkout at noon, so we were able to relax until the end. Although it was a high-end stay, the experience was very satisfying.

I recommend it for those who want to spend their time entirely in the room from check-in to check-out. Thank you for everything. I hope to come back again in autumn to enjoy the autumn leaves.

All of the staff had lovely smiles, and even the non-Japanese staff kindly and clearly explained the details of the dishes, which can be quite complex.

I chose Kinnotake Tonosawa to celebrate an important milestone for my girlfriend. We had never stayed at such a wonderful ryokan before, and I was nervous about whether the surprise celebration would go smoothly. However, from the time of booking, the email communication was very courteous—not just responding to my requests, but also understanding and accommodating my feelings, which left a strong impression.

When we arrived, the staff’s warm hospitality immediately put us at ease. I must have been quite nervous at first, but during check-in in the lobby, we were served welcome drinks and given a simple explanation about the ryokan, which helped us relax and start thinking about how to enjoy our stay.

When we were shown to our room, the towel art for the surprise made my girlfriend genuinely surprised and happy. Dinner was served early, and every dish was so delicious that even though we were full, we still wanted to eat more. It was a new and delightful experience. I just regret that I couldn’t have seconds because a surprise cake was waiting afterward.

Back in the room, the bouquet and cake I had requested were brought at the perfect timing. I had never seen my girlfriend smile that much—she was truly happy. Flowers and cakes really do speak to the heart. I am very grateful for the thoughtful arrangements.

Being able to enjoy the bath anytime was such a joy. Perhaps due to the season, there were no bugs in the open-air onsen, and the cleanliness made the experience even better.

The next morning, breakfast was again wonderful. The dried horse mackerel and simmered beef were especially delicious, and I ended up having seconds. They also kindly served us the cake we couldn’t finish the night before. I haven’t been this full in the morning in a long time.

We truly didn’t want to leave. The warm hospitality from all the staff made everything even more special, and it seems the celebration has become a lasting memory for my girlfriend. I’m sincerely grateful. We definitely hope to return for our next anniversary.

We had a delightful stay at Kinnotake Tonosawa as part of our honeymoon trip to Japan. The hospitality was outstanding from the start. Our suite with the open air onsen was amazing and the most luxurious suite we have ever stayed in. The food, including both breakfast and dinner, were kaiseki style and were both exquisite and high quality. We also booked one of the couple spa treatments, which we highly recommend. During the day, we explored the hot springs at Owakudani and the Hakone ropeway, where you can get amazing views of Mt. Fuji and the surrounding areas.

Overall, it was the perfect place to wrap up our honeymoon trip and would highly recommend to anyone going for a romantic couple's trip.

After traversing all through Japan in the spring and also surviving some torrential rain, we made it to Kinnotake Tonosawa for my partners birthday. We had only spent a night but would have loved to have stayed longer and also enjoyed the rest of Hakone. The staff was beyond kind and helpful and no one batted an eye at us being a same sec couple. We loved every second. The room was beautiful, bed was beyond comfortable, the hot spring was large enough for two and the free drinks in the minibar made for a wonderful morning cocktail. We want to return on our next visit. The matching kimonos for us was a super suite addition. The only thing I might add is I am a bit larger than my partner and found the unisex kimonos to be a tad small.

May is my husband's birthday month, and the day before our stay marked our golden wedding anniversary.
We have stayed with your company several times before, and we appreciate the hospitality each time.
The attentiveness of the staff is always appreciated.
However, there were a few disappointing aspects this time.
We mentioned some of them to your staff, but…

(First of all)

There was an unpleasant smell in the elevator (we were told it was from incense, but it was a bad smell).

When we entered the room, we found a used coffee cup left behind by the previous guest. This was quite disappointing. We couldn't help but wonder if the room had really been cleaned. It made us feel like asking to change rooms.

(We tried to reset our mood and went to dinner)
3. After dinner, we went to the lounge for dessert. However, the drinks we ordered there were forgotten. We eventually gave up and returned to our room.
(A staff member later brought the drinks to our room — perhaps they remembered — but could this have been due to a staffing shortage?)

[About the gym area]
We used it for the first time, and there were a few points of concern:

It would be ideal to have towels or sanitizing wipes available.
(At other gyms I’m a member of, it's customary to wipe down the machines before and after use for the next person.)

It would be good to have a water dispenser or some hydration facility.

Instructions on how to use each machine would be helpful, especially for beginners.
At other hotel gyms we've used, these features were generally available.
Since the facility is well-equipped, we hope it will be more actively used by many guests.

Although this may sound like excessive complaining, we truly wish for your company’s continued success.

The room was clean, comfortable, and luxurious. The onsen was magical. The food was out of this world. The service was all we could ask for!

My friend and I had an outstanding stay at Kinnotake Tonosawa. The service was some of the best we’ve ever experienced in a hotel/restaurant. The private onsen in our room was dreamy - staring out into the bamboo forest while bathing in the hot water was a magical experience. From the moment we got there, we were already talking about how we have to come back again. Kinnotake Tonosawa now holds a very special place in our hearts.

Such a relaxing and caring Ryokan. The beef Teppanyaki might also have been the best meal I've ever had in my entire life, thanks to the exceptionally skilled and witty chef and the highly attentive wait staff. If we ever decide to splurge on a Ryokan with private Onsen again, this will likely be it.

We stayed for one night and celebrated a milestone birthday at Kinnotake. It was an unforgettable experience. The food, drinks, grounds and spa services were some of the best I've experienced. I wish we could have stayed longer! I definitely recommend the spa services - they were some of the best massages we've ever had! I appreciate the level of care from the entire staff. I found this ryokan through an Instagram recommendation and stayed here to celebrate my birthday. It was exactly as shown in the photos. The outdoor onsen, with its beautiful view of nature, provided a luxurious and relaxing experience. The room was the perfect size—neither too large nor too small. The view at night had a different charm compared to the daytime, which was also lovely.

I had mentioned in advance that I didn’t like yuzu, and they kindly accommodated my request. The seasoning was perfectly to my taste, and everything was delicious. For breakfast, I chose the Western-style meal, and everything was great, but the bread was especially delicious.

Since we were sightseeing from a distant location and were unsure where to go, the wonderful staff recommended a café with a beautiful view of Mount Fuji. Thank you for the fantastic recommendation.

I stayed here for one night and two days with my partner during my short trip back to Japan from Australia. From the moment we arrived until we departed, we were deeply moved by the thoughtful and kind service. The room was modern, clean, and fully equipped with all the amenities. We enjoyed the in-room onsen very much. The food was delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed the lounge’s complimentary drinks, the sparklers after dinner, and the atmosphere of the ryokan the following morning.

I’ve stayed in various ryokans and hotels, but this is definitely one of my top three favorite accommodations. I would love to travel to Hakone again just to return to this ryokan. Thank you to all the staff for providing us with such wonderful memories.

My wife and I visited at the end of April in a Superior Room with Open-Air Bath. It was easy to get here via the bus from Hakone-Yumoto Station. The room was amazing, the forest views were extremely peaceful, and the food was excellent. The staff was also fantastic! We would definitely go back if we ever make it back to Hakone.

I was worried because I didn’t receive the reservation confirmation email, but the staff responded quickly.
Since it was Golden Week, the area around Hakone Yumoto Station was very crowded. The taxi had a one-hour wait, so I took the bus to the inn. Crossing the suspension bridge was exciting.
Upon arrival, I was welcomed with a drink and sweets, which was very relaxing. The room was very clean, and the hallway and room had a soothing scent. The open-air bath had a view of bamboo, which is the inn's namesake, and the fresh green trees. I could hear the rustling of the leaves and the gentle wind across the water’s surface. It was a peaceful and relaxing time, completely different from the hustle and bustle at the station.
The meal was at Zen. The staff was attentive, and the chef shared fun stories. The delicious and carefully prepared meat and dishes filled both my stomach and heart.
At checkout, the staff introduced me to the shuttle bus to Hakone Yumoto Station, allowing me to catch my train on time.
It was a wonderful and satisfying stay. I would love to visit again.

Despite the rain upon our arrival, the staff kindly came to the parking lot to greet us. They were very attentive during check-in and at mealtime, allowing us to enjoy a comfortable time. The food was delicious, and we were able to relax and enjoy it at a leisurely pace. The in-room open-air onsen was just the right temperature, making it very relaxing. It was a wonderful inn.
We visited for a babymoon. Since we had mentioned this at the time of booking, the staff were very considerate and attentive, allowing us to spend a truly comfortable and relaxing time.
The view from the room was incredibly moving. The scenery changed depending on the time of day—morning, noon, and evening—and simply gazing outside with my husband made me feel happy.
The meals were also excellent. I appreciated the extra care taken to ensure everything was thoroughly cooked.
If I may offer one suggestion, the breakfast menu seemed to consist mostly of salty side dishes that go with rice. It would be nice to have a more balanced selection.
As the inn only allows guests aged 12 and up, we won’t be able to return for a while after our baby is born, but my husband and I are already talking about coming back again in the future.
It was our last trip together before the baby arrives, and choosing this inn was the right decision. Thank you very much.

The dinner was delicious, and the room was incredibly quiet and tranquil. All the staff were very friendly, polite and attentive. I arrived at Kinnotake Tonosawa around 5:30 PM, which meant I missed the 5:30 dinner slot and had to join the 7:30 seating instead. I wish I had arrived earlier so I could have enjoyed dinner sooner and had more time to relax and take in the room and resort. I'll definitely make sure to arrive earlier on my next visit.

An extraordinary experience from beginning to end. The staff was incredibly kind, respectful, and attentive – the level of hospitality was truly exceptional. Our room was beautiful and serene, and having a private onsen was an unforgettable luxury. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were both stunning in flavor, balance, and presentation. They thoughtfully adapted the entire dinner to our dietary preferences, offering vegetarian alternatives and even re-cooked the meat to our liking without hesitation. Every detail at Kinnotake Tonosawa was considerate and deeply relaxing. I can’t recommend it enough.

The entire experience was top class. From the time we were received at the front of royken, to check-in, meals served to check-out was top class. We never felt rushed, our needs were always promptly met and there was always a smile on the faces of all the staff. Drinks and food were of high quality.

The property is very well maintained and finishing were of excellent quality. Given the location of the royken, we had good view of mountain range and there was sound of nature that greeted us during the day.

Plan to return to this specific property and also explore other properties managed by this Group.

My partner and I stayed for two nights and it was a special experience. Japanese breakfast and dinner were amazing and allowed us to sample different Japanese cuisines. The clothing provided to wear around the resort was also a fantastic experience and the staff were very friendly. Particularly Hue who served us both nights at dinner she was superb and made us feel welcome. She even provided recommendations and took an interest in our trip which was very nice and appreciated. The room itself was spectacular and the onsen topped it off.

We cannot expressed how much we LOVED this hotel. I would give 10 stars if I could. Everyone was so kind and lovely. We felt very spoiled being there and our room was AMAZING. Beautiful place and especially loved the kimonos and bath robes. Felt very luxurious. We will be back! They are very accommodating with food requirements for breakfast. For dinner we upgraded to the beef package as we don’t eat seafood. The chef was well worth the extra money. He cooked everything right in front of us, spoke amazing English so we had lots of laughs and our waitress made us a beautiful desert for our engagement that afternoon

I was drawn to this hotel by the website and the reviews. In reality it lacked the essence of a Japanese onsen. Maybe they have too many foreign staff and have relaxed on the service a bit or the service quality does not translate well. Other qualms is that the property seems a bit dated for the age of the property. I was hoping for a more relaxing time, but while I sat in the outdoor onsen, I can hear the sound of cars, trains, and ambulances passing by. That cannot be helped. What made it worse is being able to hear the sound of other guests, especially noisy children who are with parents who do know how to tell their child to behave in such place. It would be better if this hotel did not allow children at all. The dinner and breakfast also lacked imagination for the price that this establishment was charging. Overall, I think this place missed the mark on elegance.
