On July 3, 2024, a new series of banknotes will be issued for the first time in 20 years. Eiichi Shibusawa, known as the "Father of Japanese Capitalism," will be featured on the 10,000 yen note. Throughout his life, Shibusawa was involved in the establishment and management of over 500 companies and economic organizations, and he also made significant contributions in the fields of education, welfare, and private diplomacy.

In 1880 (Meiji 13), Shibusawa played a central role in opening the Hakone Sengokuhara Kōbokusha ranch, where he managed a state-of-the-art Western-style large ranch, introducing Western breeds of cattle and horses, and engaging in the sale of milk and butter. Later, Shibusawa shifted his management focus to the subdivision of villa land and the development and supply of Ōwakudani hot springs, contributing to the establishment of the Hakone Hot Spring Supply Company. His early business activities in Hakone significantly contributed to the region's tourism development, and he frequently visited Hakone for retreats, making him a figure closely associated with the area.
