First trip to Japan, this was part 2 of our trip and it was amazing. Staff were extremely friendly, and they had a lot of patience with us for explaining the food menu in English. We did use Google translate to help communicate, again they were very understanding and friendly. If you want privacy and still enjoy the onsen, this is the place to go. Food is phenomenal, location is calm, quiet and I don't think we even heard other guests or saw other guests it made it feel even better for us. Will be returning in the future.

Thank you for everything during our stay. As we saw on your website, it was a truly wonderful inn. Since my husband is a smoker, we had to choose between the "Kaze" or "Sora" rooms, and the KAZE suite had a fantastic layout with the dining area and bath separating the relaxing bedroom space. The view of the bamboo forest was spectacular; we could have gazed at it for hours. We also appreciated that everything was handled in-room, meaning we had no contact with other guests.

A particular highlight was the young man who served our dinner. Every movement and word was refined and polite—despite his youth, he was a true professional. We would love to be served by him again on our next visit. If I were to suggest improvements, it would be the TV placement in the living area; perhaps having two wall-mounted TVs or a rotating stand would be better. Also, for an elderly couple like us, having steps or a handrail to enter the onsen would be helpful. We visit hot spring inns every holiday, and this was undoubtedly one of the best. We look forward to a longer stay next time.

Following my stay in June 2025, this was my second time visiting.
The meals were delicious, and I really like the atmosphere of the property and the amenities, so I think it is a very nice place to stay.

The room attendant was a trainee. I could see that they were working very hard, but I wondered why a trainee was assigned to the Imperial room. As expected, there was no proactive attentiveness or thoughtful anticipation, and even when we spoke, the conversation lacked depth (they only answered questions that were asked). I did not want to feel stressed, so I refrained from initiating conversation as much as possible.
This is not a complaint about the individual staff member, but rather a concern about assigning a trainee to the Imperial room.

The onsen temperature was on the hotter side, which I like, and I enjoyed soaking in it many times during my stay.

Due to snow and traffic, we arrived very late at night, but the staff welcomed us warmly, allowing us to check in with peace of mind. Their service was excellent not only at check-in but throughout our stay, and we were able to spend our time comfortably from start to finish.

Dinner featured dishes that made the most of seasonal ingredients, all of which were delicious. The open-air onsen in our room was spacious and exceptional. Relaxing in the quiet surroundings completely relieved the fatigue from our journey.

Despite the challenging trip, we are truly glad we chose “Kinnotake Sengokuhara.” We look forward to visiting again.

With perfect hospitality and a wonderful room and onsen, this is truly the best ryokan for a secluded retreat. I have stayed at several other highly regarded ryokans, but none surpass Kinnotake as a secluded retreat in my experience.

I understand that Kinnotake offers a variety of rooms, but I feel this particular room layout is the most characteristic of Kinnotake. I hope this room remains even as renovations progress.

The onsen, meals, bed, and amenities were all perfect.

If I were to make a small suggestion, it would be to slightly lower the prices of the drinks to make the meals even more enjoyable (please also consider Japanese guests, not only inbound visitors).

This stay became a truly wonderful trip during the peak autumn foliage season.

The private open-air onsen in the room was so spacious that it hardly felt like a typical guestroom onsen, and the temperature was just right. We enjoyed it so much that we ended up going in several times.

The amenities were also very well prepared. I was particularly surprised by the hair clip. It was my first time seeing a ryokan provide a hair clip, and I was impressed.

As for the meals, the portions were just right, and everything, including dessert, was delicious. It was a perfect ryokan for a special day. I would love to stay here again when I visit Hakone.

This time, I stayed at Kinnotake Sengokuhara for the first time.
I had previously stayed at Kinnotake Tonosawa, and I was impressed by how different the two locations are.
It is not a matter of which is better; both are excellent. However, Sengokuhara is particularly suitable for those who want to spend time just the two of them without interacting with the outside world.

I have experienced many onsens, and this one suited my skin very well, which was truly enjoyable.
The amenities, especially the body soap, shampoo, and body milk, were ordinary.
The meals were elegant and delicious, though perhaps not particularly distinctive.
The room created a private atmosphere for the two of us, but it was a bit too dark.
Also, the washroom and the onsen are on different floors, so moving between them might be cumbersome until you get used to it.

Overall, I had a very good experience, but due to the inn's concept, the sense of privacy and seclusion was perhaps a little too strong.

We stayed at Kinnotake Sengokuhara in Hakone for a marriage proposal.

Before our stay, the staff kindly gave us advice on the proposal, which allowed us to proceed smoothly. On the day of our stay, all the staff were very polite and helpful, allowing us to have a wonderful anniversary, for which we are extremely grateful. I recommend this place for couples who want to spend quiet, private time together for a proposal or anniversary.

Our impressions of the stay:
The room was spacious and open, well-maintained, and felt very clean despite its age. The amenities were also plentiful.
Both breakfast and dinner were delicious and had many dishes, leaving us very satisfied. The bar had a wide selection of drinks, allowing us to enjoy meaningful time together.

There is no way to describe the experience of staying here. You just need to set aside a part of your life to visit. The team is wonderful, accommodating, friendly, thoughtful, and helpful with everything. We used Google translate to communicate when there were more complicated questions we needed help with - but it worked like a charm to help us talk! Dinner and breakfast service were always 5-star experiences, and the comfort of the suite we stay in was exceptional. I want to give a special thanks to “Big Mac” for his playful interaction with dinner service! Finally a big shoutout to Iwasaki - he made some great drink recommendations to us for dinner pairings, but since the resort was slower on the nights we were there he spent a lot of time talking with us while mixing fantastic drinks in the beautiful bar they have on-site!!! Everything here was amazing and we plan to come back on our next visit to Hakone!

My husband and I stayed in the Sora room for our honeymoon. Staying at Kinnotake was an absolute spectacle, a dream of a lifetime. Nothing in our stay fell short of expectations, everything exceeded our expectations and more. We tried the red and white wines in the room’s refrigerator, but we were disappointed. The welcome drink, which was champagne, was very delicious and satisfying.

I think it would be better to either provide better quality wine in the refrigerator or not provide it at all.

The ingredients I mentioned in advance that I don’t like were kindly adjusted, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious.
They also helped with the flower arrangement I had prepared for a proposal, and I was able to give it as a surprise.

At checkout, we were pleasantly surprised with a thoughtful gift in celebration, which made us very happy.

I love the cloudy onsen water and have repeated visits many times.
Each dish is carefully prepared, and I always look forward to the meals.

If possible, it would be wonderful to have time to take an onsen after check-in and enjoy a cocktail at Bamboo before dinner—just a selfish wish from us.

I stayed here to celebrate my husband’s birthday.
It was simply the best.
My husband said it was the best inn he had ever stayed at, and I also thoroughly enjoyed myself. I have come to love this place.

Here are some key points:

Although smoking is allowed, the rooms are very comfortable for non-smokers with no smell at all.
My husband is a smoker and usually has to go outside to the smoking area, but in this room, he could smoke on the balcony, which was very convenient.
Even as a non-smoker, I found the room very pleasant.
This room suits couples where one smokes and the other does not, allowing both to be satisfied.

Everything is completed inside the room.
The room is spacious, and besides the smoking balcony, there is a dining room. Having meals in the room is truly wonderful.
Being able to enjoy everything indoors without wasting time made it a perfect stay for relaxation.
You can stay in the indoor yukata all the time, so there is no need to change clothes for meals, which is wonderful.

The food is delicious.
The dining room is separate from the bath and living area, with sliding doors that are properly closed during meals.
The staff served the course meals carefully, closing the doors behind them, which gave a private restaurant-like feeling.

The pace of meal service was perfect.
I was amazed at how well timed the serving was, as if they were watching us closely.
Even though the sliding doors were closed, the next dish arrived without much waiting after finishing the previous one. It was impressive.

The onsen is excellent.
The space is large and stylishly designed.
I spent about 5-6 hours in the onsen during my stay.
There were plenty of towels, thick and high quality.
As a bathrobe user, having one available was perfect.

Large bottled water was provided.
Since I drink a lot of water, this was very helpful.
When I mentioned some drinks in the fridge were unsuitable, they kindly replaced them with large bottles of water and sparkling water, which was very satisfying.

Check-in and check-out can be done in the room.
How wonderful it is to complete all packing and then call the front desk for checkout service to come to the room.

There are so many wonderful things that I could go on and on. I am very happy and will definitely come again.

If I may offer a couple of suggestions:

It would be nice to have turndown service or night cleaning.
Especially when dining in a separate room, cleaning up finished drinks and replacing cups would be appreciated.
Since I drink a lot, refilling tea and providing new cups would make it even more comfortable.

Collecting used towels and providing fresh ones.
This would also make for a perfect feeling during the night room service.

It’s a long message, but that is all.
It was the best lodging experience. All staff were thoughtful and provided very pleasant service. I love this place and will return.

From the entrance to the corridors, guest rooms, and even the bar terrace, every spot offered a picturesque view.

The room was a maisonette type.
Meals were served in the room.
Instead of futons, there was a king-size bed, so no one came to lay out bedding.

Although it was inconvenient that the toilet was not on the same floor as the bedroom, the stay was more than satisfactory.

When using the onsen, I only sensed the presence of others nearby, but otherwise, I didn’t encounter anyone and could enjoy my time without concern for others.

The room was clean, and although I am a non-smoker, I did not notice any cigarette smell at all.
I was deeply healed by the natural flowing cloudy onsen.

We stayed here in late July as a couple.
The facility felt somewhat old overall, but it was within an acceptable range.
This is a completely secluded ryokan without a lobby or waiting area, and from check-in to check-out, we did not leave our room. This type of ryokan was new to us, but it was nice in its own way.
The meals were light-flavored Kyoto-style kaiseki and delicious. However, the portion sizes were small, and the meat dish was roast beef, so we could not fully appreciate the quality of Kobe beef. Since it was a special occasion, we would have preferred it as a steak.
The open-air onsen in the room was large, with a nice view, and we were very satisfied. However, it was relatively deep and had no step or handrail, so it was somewhat difficult and risky for elderly people to get in. A handrail or step would be helpful.
We visit onsens mainly in Gora, Hakone, and Izu about once a month, and the satisfaction level with this inn was high.
However, considering the content, it felt a bit expensive, which may be a concern.

Wi-Fi was not working; the router could not be detected, so we couldn't connect.

The location and operation of the light switches were difficult to understand, especially in the bedroom.

There were few signs in the facility, which made it hard to find our way. After going out for shopping at night, it was difficult to get back to the room from the entrance.

The number of towels was limited. While we understand this may be out of consideration for the environment, we would have appreciated a separate set for the evening and the next morning.

We had the most wonderful 2 nights at Kinnotake. From the moment we arrived, someone was waiting at the gates to take us directly to our room where they checked us in quickly. We were offered a wide selection of welcome drinks and desserts. The whole property was very relaxing.

The customer service throughout our stay was very attentive and while some staff are not as fluent in English they made every effort to ensure we had everything we needed. They were very prompt to our requests. When we requested a different pillow and humidifier it was waiting in our room when we returned from a day of exploring.

The room was immaculate, very clean, and lots of amenities included such as a fridge stocked with drinks. We thoroughly enjoyed the Onsen at every moment we could, it was relaxing and helped ease our muscle soreness.

We had breakfast and dinner included and the meals were amazing! We enjoyed every bite and couldn’t get over how great the quality was. The meals were slightly different on both days. There wasn’t a single dish we did not enjoy.

Thank you for your hospitality during our stay. We stayed as reward for my 30 years of service, with my husband. The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were delicious, and the timing of when each dish was served was so perfect that I wondered if someone was watching us. The room, the bath, and the view were exactly as shown on the website, and we were moved by it.
However, one thing I found disappointing was the darkness of the room. While it creates a calming atmosphere, the bathroom was too dark. I think the dining room could be a bit brighter so that the food looks even more appetizing. As we age, it's harder to see in dimly lit areas. I hope this feedback is helpful.
Although we appreciated the effort to avoid meeting other guests, it felt a bit too restrictive as we couldn't visit the bar or walk freely around the ryokan. It might be helpful to add this information to the website as a supplement.
Overall, it was an incredibly luxurious stay, and I’m very satisfied with it as a milestone in my life. The staff who attended to us, especially the room attendants, were all young, cheerful, and wonderful.

This is a very lovely ryokan. This was my second stay, and I stayed here for our wedding anniversary trip. I don’t usually stay at the same place twice, but I had such a great experience during my previous visit that I decided to return this time as well.
It was my first time staying in the renovated room, and the "Hibiki" room had a spacious bath area, with the bath in the center of the room, allowing for easy access right away, which was fantastic.
The staff maintained a perfect balance of being attentive while respecting privacy and treated us with great care.
For those who want to enjoy delicious food and a relaxing onsen while keeping sightseeing at a moderate level, I highly recommend this ryokan.

Wow, what a wonderful experience my wife and I had. We spent two nights here traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto and we wish we could have stayed longer. This was our first time in Japan and our first time in a ryokan. The Kaze room was very spacious, the bed was very comfortable, the view was scenic, and I could write a whole review on the in-room onsen, but it was truly amazing. I've never felt so relaxed and rejuvenated, and my skin was glowing. The food was amazing, but you'll definitely need to be a little adventurous with it if you're not used to Japanese cuisine. The staff were also amazing! Very warm, welcoming, accommodating, and spoke English well enough! There is a Family Mart right down the street for any snacks, or extra bottles of sake, which was very convenient. We spent a little time in the whiskey bar and enjoyed a nice cigar too. Overall I would highly recommend this ryokan, and even more so recommend the Kaze room.

I was looking forward to enjoying a drink at the lovely bar while admiring the illuminated bamboo forest surrounding the pond, but when I headed to the bar, it was closed. When I asked the staff, they said, "It’s closed today." I believe the bar is one of the main facilities of this accommodation, so if it was going to be closed, I would have appreciated being informed at check-in.

In today's world, with strong opposition to smoking, most places have completely banned smoking rooms, and it’s become quite the norm.
It's rather disappointing to have to go all the way to a designated smoking area, especially when you’re staying at an onsen resort. When smoking is banned, it somewhat takes away from the experience.

However, despite the growing number of ryokans with this smoking ban policy, Kinnotake Sengokuhara "Hibiki" offers a wonderful smoking room option.

The room is spacious, and the onsen experience is flawless. The distance from the bedroom to the onsen allows for a quick, convenient experience that you wouldn't find at other places.

Unlike general honsen inns in Yumoto or Gora, the staff here are not bothersome, and their service is impeccable, ensuring a comfortable stay.

The food has improved over the last ten years, and each dish has high quality.

Rather than wasting money at other inns, you'll ultimately be more satisfied spending your time at Kinnotake Sengokuhara. There are various rooms available, and if I could, I would love to stay here every year.

The hospitality and service were excellent, but there were three things that caught my attention:

1. The lighting in the toilet was too dim, and I couldn’t read the remote control’s text.

2. Some of the stairs were made of metal, and without wearing slippers, it was painful to walk on them.

3. I used the open-air onsen in the morning, but the water faucet for adding hot water was frozen due to the severe cold, so I couldn’t make the water warmer.

Despite these concerns, it was a wonderful stay that created lasting memories.

Everything is superb! Customer service is perfect!! Just 1 minor point regarding the Air Conditioning for the bedroom and bathroom corridor - not enough warm air even after we tried to adjust with the remote. According to the remote, it was showing a temperature of over 30 degrees. We woke up both mornings feeling very cold.

My partner and I wanted to have a quiet stay at a private ryokan and we were super happy that we chose Kinnotake Sengokuhara. The service and hospitality from the start of our stay was topnotch.

Our room was comfortable, clean and beautiful with ample amenities. We especially enjoyed the private onsen in our room and made use of it several times during our stay.

We were super impressed that we plan on inviting our friends and family to come join us the next time we plan on visiting.

We used this place for my girlfriend's birthday trip. The hospitality was wonderful, and we could feel the care from all of the staff members. The hospitality as a "ryokan" goes without saying, and the comfort of the room is flawless. This has been my regular accommodation for nearly 20 years, and even though the staff changes each time, my special requests are always thoughtfully attended to. I truly commend this. Above all, the quality of the "onsen" is second to none. The temperature management is superb, and the wonderful quality of the onsen is fully enjoyed. This is a onsen that every Japanese person should experience at least once. I would confidently recommend this hidden gem of a hot spring ryokan to people around the world. I hope you continue to preserve and carry on Japan’s unique "onsen culture" for many years to come.

Since it was around Christmas, there was a towel art cake in the bedroom, and my child was very happy about it. However, there was a crack in the washbasin, which made me a bit concerned, so I gave it 4 stars.

I stayed in room 風 for 2 nights. The service was flawless and the room was well managed. Can strengthen on the cleanliness of the room and also provide more choices for breakfast. However the overall experience was nice and I had a great time. Thank you for taking care of us.

I stayed at Hikari half a year ago, and this time we stayed for two nights at Kirameki and Kaze. Just like the concept of Kin no Take, we were able to enjoy our own space and time, relaxing and taking things slow. The atmosphere in both rooms was completely different, giving us a wonderful sense of detachment from our usual life.
Above all, the kindness and attentiveness of each staff member made our stay special. It wasn’t just the luxury of the facility but also the excellent service and communication that made us feel comfortable throughout. Even though we booked six months ago, all the requests we made at that time were met naturally.
The meals during our two-night stay were fantastic, with different menus for breakfast and dinner. The staff’s explanations were very detailed and interesting, and we could tell that each dish was carefully prepared. We were both impressed and finished everything!
While the accommodation wasn’t cheap, it was definitely worth the price, and we had a wonderful time that exceeded our expectations. We will definitely come back again.

This was the most perfect place to relax on our honeymoon, from the moment we checked in everything was amazing.

When we checked in, we were taken to the HIKARI room, a beautiful expansive space with a tatami, dining room, bedroom, private onsen, and a porch overlooking the bamboo. We never wanted to leave: the onsen was so peaceful.

Dinner was the most delicious Japanese coursed Kaiseki food. Everything was extremely delicious and fresh, and used local seasonal ingredients. My husband doesn’t eat pork or shellfish, and they did a wonderful job accommodating his dietary restrictions. Breakfast was incredible too — a huge assortment of small delicious dishes.

The staff at this ryokan are absolutely wonderful. The service is incredible and they really go out of their way to make sure you have a great experience. We especially enjoyed talking with the person who served us breakfast and the person who served us dinner — me and my husband are both learning Japanese, and the staff were really nice to talk to.

Overall this ryokan offers an extremely private, peaceful experience and I am so grateful we got to stay here on our honeymoon. Thank you to the staff for making our time here so wonderful!

This was truly an incredible experience we will remember for many years to come. Our room was enormous, featuring a private dining room, garden, hot spring tub, and a massive bedroom.

From the moment we checked in, the service provided by the staff was exemplary. A selection of local spirits, desserts and drinks was provided to us on arrival and we wanted for nothing during our stay.

The provided in-room dinner was one of the best meals we’ve enjoyed in Japan and showcased a number of regional delicacies over an extensive several course meal. My husband is not a fan of raw fish and the chef and staff were so kind as to accommodate his needs by tailoring several dishes to his tastes.

The mattress, pillows and Manchester were of exceptional quality and the rooms were well equipped.

The location is stunning, we were easily able to walk to local galleries and enjoyed exploring the area around the hotel.

I would thoroughly recommend Kinnotake Sengokuhara to anyone seeking an exceptional and memorable experience.

This place is a hidden gem. If you travel to Hakone, consider staying here. From the moment the staff meet you at the entranceway. To the moment when you depart, all your needs are taken care of.

The pajama only had the top, with no pants, so it would have been nice if we had the option to choose.
The food portion was just right, but the alcohol served in the room was quite expensive. It seems to be more targeted for inbound guests.
The bar had a wide selection of alcoholic drinks.
The property was clean, but there weren't really any places to stroll around. This is more of a place to relax and enjoy the room.

The meals, room, and service were all very good, but I was a bit disappointed with the shower's temperature adjustment. Also, there are some parts of the stairs in the room that are made of reinforced concrete, which might be unavoidable due to the room's structure, but it was still uncomfortable to walk on with bare feet.

Amazing experience at the resort. From the moment we drove in to the parking lot, staff came out to greet us and help us with our luggage. We were promptly led to our room without having to wait at the lobby and got wonderful service from the check-in process, to getting our welcome snacks and drinks to dinner to breakfast. Dinner and breakfast were served with utmost care in our rooms and detailed explanations of each dish.
Private onsen in the room was wonderful. Sipping a drink while enjoying the sounds of nature in the onsen is very enjoyable and relaxing.
Check-out procedure was seamless and prompt.
10/10 would recommend.

I do appreciate and thank you for the accommodation and replacement of dishes for the dishes with cooked eggs and raw eggs. But the main dishes especially the beef dishes tasted bland and the meat quality was too chewy. The additional courses we ordered - lobster and abalone had no taste at all - with no herbs or garlic and taste very bland and not good.

We wanted to take a relaxing trip to cherish our time together as a couple before the birth of our child, so we stayed here this time. When we informed them in advance about my pregnancy, they prepared room service drinks without caffeine and even provided a body pillow to make sleeping more comfortable, which made us very happy. The meals were also considerate and extremely helpful. The room with the outdoor onsen was superb. My husband hasn't been particularly fond of onsen before, but he enjoyed them so much that he has now become a fan. The meals were also very delicious, and both of us were very satisfied. As we were leaving, the staff warmly asked, 'Will you be back next time with three?' and we immediately responded, 'Yes, we will definitely come back.' We are grateful to the staff for their consideration. Thank you very much for such a wonderful time.

I stayed at Kinnotake for the first time and was immediately overwhelmed by the atmosphere that felt like stepping into a different world upon entering the facility. Finding my way to the room felt like navigating a maze, but later I learned from the staff that it was part of a deliberate concept, which made sense. The room was surrounded by bamboo, creating a refined and impeccably clean atmosphere throughout.

The staff, including the two chefs, were young and greeted me with smiles. Their service was excellent. The cuisine, prepared in Kyoto style, was delicious with just the right portions.

Since both of our birthdays are close, we visited around the same time last year as well. Last year was amazing being a Japanese person! This is what true service is!! I was moved and absolutely promised to come back here next year! We had a lot of fights but somehow managed to make it back here. Everyone's service, smiles, and hospitality are truly wonderful, and the rooms, food, and hot springs are all excellent in every way. We will get along well again this year so we can come again next year!

We used Tonosawa last year and it was good, so this year we stayed at Sengokuhara for our anniversary. We were satisfied with the meals, onsen, and service. It was very pleasing to receive various considerations because it was our anniversary. However, the pajamas were short with slits, and the air from the bed's air conditioner made it very cold. I would like separate-type pajamas! Apart from the pajamas, we were very satisfied. It was a wonderful anniversary. We would like to use your services again.

We spent less than 24 hours in Hakone but this was an excellent experience and a great way to end our 8 day trip to Japan. Relaxing is an understatement. The hotel is as quiet as can be. Lovely rooms and our own onsen spa overlooking the mountains. We had a great traditional Kaiseki meal paired with some local sake. And to cap off the evening, I spent a little me time at their Bar Bamboo sipping on reasonably priced Hibiki 21 and Yamazaki 18 Whiskeys. All in all, highly recommended and we will most certainly return if we're ever in Japan again.
