Kinnotake has always been an aspirational inn for me, usually out of reach.
Thanks to a 40% off sale, I rearranged my schedule with my companion and booked a day-use stay at Saryo.
I didn’t check carefully when booking and realized that Saryo’s plan was actually room-only, so I hurriedly called to confirm. They kindly allowed us to check out by 8 PM on the same day.

The room was spacious and clean, leaving nothing to complain about. The only drawback was that the shower hose seemed broken and was temporarily fixed with tape, which caused it to behave unpredictably if used at full pressure.

I would like to keep an eye on sales and try to book this room again.

We stayed here to celebrate my partner’s birthday. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by the pleasant aroma of incense and received an explanation of how to use the inn. The gentleman who assisted us was very refined, and at that moment I thought, “I want to come back to this inn.”

After the explanation, we received our room key and moved to our room, which was even more wonderful than expected. The room was clean and well-prepared, with amenities and tea sweets provided. Our room included a dining area, terrace, a separate bedroom, and an open-air onsen. Without a TV, we could truly escape daily life and relax in the dining area.

Since we had requested towel art, my partner was delighted when seeing it along with the view of the open-air onsen from the bedroom. The onsen was very pleasant, and the sulfur scent and atmosphere helped us relieve daily fatigue. My partner, who enjoys onsen and sauna, repeatedly moved between the onsen and the terrace to enjoy the open air.

For the birthday celebration, a cake and bouquet were prepared. We could choose the colors of the bouquet, and a message was added to the cake. Both were very well received.

At checkout, the staff provided a bag for the bouquet so we could safely take it home. The foreign staff member who assisted us at checkout was also very polite and gentle, making us feel that staying here was the right choice.

Even though we forgot some items due to relaxing so much, the staff handled it carefully over the phone. From the time of booking, there was nothing to be disappointed about. Overall, everything exceeded our expectations, and we would definitely like to stay here again when visiting Hakone.

One night stay at Kinnotake Saryo in Kumo Room was excellent in all aspects. Staff was very friendly. Room was exceptional. Clean, spacious, and beautifully designed. The building was very quiet and felt nicely private. Onsen and outdoor shower was great. Indoor heat / AC was great. Would love to stay again, 10/10 recommend.

A bit of a drive / taxi from Hakone Yumoto station (~30 minutes) up winding mountain roads. Hakone Digital Freepass gives great access to bus system and other attractions (ropeway, lake cruise) nearby.

Does not offer breakfast / dinner at this location. Other in-room snacks provided were great. Nice dining options within walking distance.

Since I am not comfortable with public onsen shared by many people, my partner found this ryokan for us. It was our first time staying in a room with a private bath, and we were very satisfied. The bath temperature was just right, the cleaning was thorough, and the shower and other facilities were generally satisfactory.

The room felt clean, including the tatami, washroom, and toilet, likely because it is relatively new. Many of the amenities were carefully chosen, and the drinks and other services were abundant. The male staff at check-in provided very polite service, and the foreign female staff who assisted us during our stay was also pleasant, making us feel comfortable. She seemed capable of handling foreign language communication as well.

We appreciated that the ryokan minimizes direct contact with staff, which suited our preference, though it may feel inconvenient for those who prefer more service. As a stay without included meals, we cannot review food, but the original snack nuts provided were very tasty, even though purchasing extras or souvenirs seemed a bit expensive.

The garden area of our room was spacious, but the indoor space was somewhat small. There was no storage, so yukata and other items were placed in a corner. The lighting in the room and bath area was designed for ambiance, but even at maximum brightness, it was somewhat dim. This did not bother us while relaxing, but areas like the cabinet (with microwave, refrigerator, kettle, etc.) and near the shower were not well lit, requiring a light for nighttime use, which was slightly inconvenient.

We visited in mid-December, so there were no insects, but with the open garden and bath area, insects may enter more in summer or autumn. The makeup mirror provided seemed good, but its automatic light was too sensitive, making touch-ups difficult for my partner.

Overall, the balance of price and quality felt appropriate (good value). We were satisfied with our stay and would consider returning.

This time, I stayed to celebrate my partner’s birthday. I requested decorations in advance, and the staff gladly accommodated my request. I am truly grateful for their flexible response.

Both my partner and I were deeply moved and captivated by the wonderful atmosphere they created.

The open-air onsen was located on the first floor, so some movement was required, but we did not encounter the guests in the other room on the second floor, so it was not an issue. It was also very convenient that we could use the onsen multiple times during our stay; we used it twice, in the morning and evening.

We are glad that we chose this ryokan for such an important day. It became an unforgettable day. Thank you very much.

The accommodations were awesome! Nazri and Koji were extremely helpful and welcoming. I did not get the food service so I cannot comment on that. I would not go anywhere else for my stay in Hakone.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights during the midway point in our trip to Japan, this ended up being his favorite place we stayed. The Inn was super quiet, the staff were very attentive and super nice.

The private semi open bath was great as we could just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. As someone with (many) tattoos, having a private Hot Spring bath was also an added bonus as I didn’t have to worry about any policies or trying to cover my tattoos.

We had the Kaze room which had a traditional Japanese room design which I loved. The inn provided a bunch of amenities including bathrobes and yukatas, which ensured that we were comfortable at all times.

I would highly recommend if you’re looking for somewhere to get away from the noise and busyness of other commercial hotels, it was a great experience.

The facilities were very clean, and the onsen was very comfortable, allowing us to relax and relieve our daily fatigue. The mini bar was also very appreciated.

This was our second stay.
During our first visit, we stayed on a plan that included lunch, but this was our first time visiting since the lunch-inclusive plan was no longer available. Even without lunch, we were completely satisfied.
The atmosphere of the room and the wonderful onsen made us want to return again. From check-in to check-out, time passed quickly and we felt it went by in no time.
Our first visit was in summer, and this time it was during the silver grass season. Next, we would like to come in the cold winter to warm up.

The onsen relieved my fatigue and made my skin smooth.
The amenities also had a lovely fragrance.

Even though I only had time for a day trip, I was able to fully enjoy the onsen at a relaxed pace.

The cloudy hot spring water from Owakudani was flowing naturally without chlorine, and the quality of the onsen was very high. The temperature was well controlled, so I could soak in the onsen comfortably for a long time.

The welcome drink and sweets were a nice touch, and the dinner bento was quite filling and delicious. There were free beers and champagne available in the refrigerator.

A friendly young man with a lovely smile took care of us and explained everything thoroughly.

Since the shower area is outside, it might be cold in winter. There is a onsen near the shower.

Starting in July, overnight stays also became available. I highly recommend this inn.

This was our first time using the facility.
We hurried to book because we heard that the meal-included day-use plan would end this month.
The meal had generous portions for lunch, and I couldn’t finish the seasoned rice, but it was very delicious.
I wanted to stay as long as possible, but due to other plans, we had to check out by 5 PM, and we left feeling reluctant to go.

As expected, the onsen was amazing. Drawn from the Owakudani source, it had that distinct sulfur aroma and milky white water—truly a real onsen experience.
The indoor space and amenities were excellent, and after the meal, we appreciated the private atmosphere.
Though the meal-included day-use plan ends this month, I would love to return even without the meal option.
If possible, I would be happy if check-in time without meals could be a bit earlier.

The facility is designed with a calm atmosphere from the entrance to the guest rooms, which immediately raised my expectations for the stay.
The service staff was exclusively assigned to us from the moment of arrival. Their demeanor and explanations were polite, and even with some of my somewhat unreasonable requests, they were very accommodating, which made the stay very comfortable.
The guest room was a lovely blend of traditional and modern styles, with soothing colors, and the white, cloudy onsen water from Owakudani was wonderful.
The lunch shabu-shabu exceeded my expectations. The meat was excellent, and the appetizers and vegetables were fresh, with each dish thoughtfully prepared. The highlight was the rice cooked in a pot, which was incredibly delicious. Even though I thought I wouldn’t be able to eat more after the appetizers and meat, it was so tasty that I ended up going back for two or three servings of rice, with or without the delicious broth.
Although I couldn’t stay until 9 pm as I visited on a weekday, I would love to return and enjoy a longer stay next time. I’m also interested in trying other rooms, and I would happily repeat the experience. If there could be additional menu options, it would make the experience even better.

We arrived about 15 minutes early and asked if it was okay to leave the car at the parking lot and explore the area. The staff kindly guided us and allowed us to do so.

The staff who showed us to the parking lot were very kind and attentive, and we were both impressed by their hospitality.

The room and onsen were wonderful, and we had a truly relaxing day. The only downside was the construction noise, but we plan to visit again once the construction is completed.

The food was also incredibly delicious, and we were very satisfied.

Although it was a very cold day, the bath was wonderful and kept me warm. The shower is outside, so I did feel a bit cold at first, but once I got into the sulfur-rich cloudy onsen, I felt so warm that I even wanted to cool down for a while.
The hallway, washbasin, and restroom were a bit chilly, but the room was warm, and there was no inconvenience.
The minibar was well-stocked.
As for the meals, both the quality and quantity were excellent. However, having shabu-shabu every time felt a little repetitive, so it would be nice if there were options for different courses or plans to choose from, which would add more enjoyment for repeat visits.
The hospitality was also great, and I had a very pleasant time.
Overall, I am very satisfied.

I visited with my husband for my birthday.
From the moment we arrived to when we were seen off, the service was exceptional. The woman who took care of us was always smiling, and it made the experience even better.

The shabu-shabu and dinner were both delicious. I thought I was full, but I still enjoyed the dinner completely.

Since it was close to my birthday, they wrote "Happy Birthday" on my dessert plate, which was a wonderful surprise and made me very happy.

The temperature of the onsen was just perfect, and I was able to enjoy it multiple times.

We had a truly special experience, and I had an amazing 10 hours.

I will definitely visit again.

I was looking for a private, exclusive onsen where I could stay without worrying about time, and I found this room at a great price.

The onsen was on the first floor, but I had no trouble using it. The half-open air bath with the natural onsen water was amazing, and it warmed me from the core of my body. The room was spacious, and it was an environment where I could forget about time.

In addition to light snacks, there were welcome drinks, sweets, and a well-stocked fridge. The quality of the amenities was also excellent.

It was my birthday, so I had my meal outside, but the next time I stay, I’d love to relax while enjoying a meal in one of the rooms on the first floor.

It would be great if there were chairs outside for washing off.

We visited to celebrate a special occasion and stayed in the "Hibiki" room. Although I had just briefly mentioned the celebration when making the reservation, they upgraded the fruit dessert that was included with the meal to a full dessert plate.

First, the food was absolutely delicious—simply put, it was the best. I thought lunch would be just the shabu-shabu, but they also served a dinner. There was also unlimited drinks. The food was more than enough, and we had no problem with it (laughs).

Upon checkout, they even gave us a gift of incense as a memory of the celebration—such wonderful hospitality. The staff was kind and attentive throughout our stay. When I mentioned I would be checking in a little late, they seemed to have been waiting for us. As soon as we parked, they immediately guided us to the parking lot without needing to be called.

The room and onsen were both spacious and beautiful—truly the best. We spent time until nearly 9 PM, and the relaxing hours passed by so quickly, making it the perfect day for the two of us.

We will definitely visit again. My companion was also very happy. Thank you so much!

I was planning a trip for my friend's birthday, but due to work, we were looking for a place to relax for a day trip. I happened to find this ryokan, and it became a wonderful memory. The room on the second floor had the onsen on the first floor, but it was spacious and comfortable, and my friend was thrilled. In addition to the light snacks, we had welcome sweets, drinks, and a wide variety of drinks in the refrigerator. The quality of the amenities was excellent.

Personally, I was very pleased with the quality of the onsen water. Also, there was a shampoo I had discovered over 10 years ago but had not been able to find, and I was thrilled to reconnect with it.

I am amazed that it is sold at this price. I will definitely use this place again.

I made a reservation because I wanted to soak in the outdoor bath quietly and calm my mind from the daily fatigue.
The room was very quiet, and the open-air onsen was excellent.
If I had to mention something, it was a bit disappointing that I couldn’t see the outside view (though it's understandable due to the location). However, everything else was a very calming space.

It was a truly luxurious time, especially for a day-use visit! The calm atmosphere throughout the building, the polite and soothing service, the clean interior, the pleasant onsen, and the delicious food were all outstanding!
The meat was of excellent quality, though a bit fatty for us in our 40s. However, there’s no doubt it was fresh and top-quality meat!

After experiencing all the rooms except for the second floor, I returned to this room once again. The distance between the onsen and the room was just right. Even just looking at the bath from the room was relaxing. The appetizers were as always, satisfying and evoking the feeling of the season. For the shabu-shabu, I had requested leaner cuts of meat in advance, and they fulfilled my request. As a returning guest, my only suggestion would be to have the option to choose game meat (such as boar or deer) for the shabu-shabu. That would be a lovely addition.

This was my first visit, and it exceeded my expectations. The food was delicious, and the private open-air onsen in the room had the unique milky water of Sengokuhara onsen. The temperature was perfect, and the texture was wonderfully smooth. I also really liked the room lighting—it was thoughtfully designed. The bathroom, powder room, and amenities were all excellent, with nothing to complain about. The staff member in charge of our room was perfectly balanced, attentive yet unobtrusive.
If I had to suggest one improvement, it would be to offer another course option for the meals. If that were available, I would definitely return right away. Overall, it was a wonderful place where every detail was well considered. I look forward to visiting again.

The food was absolutely delicious and left a lasting impression on me.
Especially the shabu-shabu and the ginger rice hitsumabushi. The dashi was superb, and I really enjoyed it.
However, the portion was large, and I regret not being able to finish it. I didn't have room for dinner after that.
Next time, I think half the portion would be more than enough.

As for the onsen temperature,
As expected of the Hakone hot spring source, it warms you up completely, and my skin became so smooth. It was amazing.
But, it was a little too hot for me.
If it were at a slightly cooler temperature, I think I could have enjoyed it even more.

But overall, it was the best experience.
I will definitely visit again.

I often wanted to enjoy a day-use onsen around Sengokuhara, and I found the service I was looking for here. My room was on the second floor, but I didn’t mind the walk to the bath on the first floor. However, I think it would be helpful to mark the keys for the room and bath in some way, so it's easier to know which key belongs to which. I’ve already made a reservation for next month! Looking forward to it.

I stayed in a room on the second floor. While I had to go down to the first floor to access the hot spring, that was actually quite fun. The food and the hot spring were both excellent.
The only downside was that the window in the room couldn't be opened. I assume it's because the view isn’t very good, but I felt like there was a lack of openness in the room.

It was a beautiful and comfortable Japanese modern ryokan where I could stay from the morning until night for a day trip to the onsen. The scent of incense was also soothing. The Sengokuhara Susuki Plateau and the wetland garden were within walking distance, making it perfect for autumn strolls. I was able to soak in the murky onsen drawn from Owakudani multiple times, and each dish of the meticulously prepared seasonal cuisine was delicious, with the shabu-shabu being especially hearty. Due to my work, I rarely get to travel overnight, so this was the perfect place to enjoy a luxurious, extraordinary experience just like an overnight stay.

I stayed here for a birthday trip, and when I mentioned it to the staff, they prepared a dessert plate, which really touched me. Even though it was a sudden request, I felt that they must have asked the head chef to prepare it, and I really appreciated their thoughtfulness.

The staff member who served us was from Nepal. She had a wonderful smile and was incredibly attentive, far exceeding what I would expect. The level of service was outstanding. The food was also exceptional, far exceeding the price, and it was incredibly delicious.

I visited during midsummer, expecting to only use the open-air onsen in the evening due to the shade, but thanks to the coolness of Hakone and onsen being in the shade, I was able to enjoy it throughout my stay. The meticulously prepared meals were all incredibly delicious, to the point of sighing with delight, and I was truly healed in the comfortable yet luxurious room. The time spent leisurely listening to the sound of the spring source flowing was truly wonderful. It was a special ryokan that I definitely want to visit again. Thank you very much.
